A Little Tired

This has been and will be quite a week by Saturday, and one that I will be glad to see behind us! Monday we had to go to New Orleans to take Nic for some needed kidney tests. To go there and back, plus Doctor's visit and tests, is extremely tiring! His tests were all normal, so we do not have to go back until this time next year! Thank the Lord!!!!!

Then today I started fasting for my tests on Friday in Houston! I can only have clear liquids......YUCK!!! I am hungry and tired tonight. I am allergic to what most people drink to have a colon test, so this is the way I have to prep!

We have been working on the girl's bathroom, getting ready to paint! Maybe another reason for being tired! I will post before and after pictures when we finish. Hopefully we will finish painting tomorrow!!!!!

Wheeeee and Oh, No!!!!!

Yesterday I did this.......

Yep, I fell down!!!!!!!! I haven't fallen since the last time I played a game of baseball, which was a few years ago. I was trying to do some power walking around my pool, and tripped on the water spout. Normally we have pot plants around it to keep just such from happening, but because of the hurricanes a few months back they were moved. We just didn't put them back! Now I wish I had!!!!!!!! I cut my finger, bruised my hip, and hurt my back again! Just what I needed!

Then, today I walk into the game room and find this....................

The two little ones were playing up here and got into some shredded paper.

Wacky Wash

I always seem to be washing clothes!!!! The washer and dryer run daily and I really have grown to dislike folding clothes. I have my children fold and put away their own, but that still leaves other stuff. I have gone to 1 towel for each child for a few days at a time. If they do not hang it up, I told them they can drip dry for the next bath. So far, they seem to believe me and hang up the towel. Now if I could just convince my hubby who has the philosophy that a clean towel is needed for each bath. Multiply that philosophy by 6 and you get the picture of how fast the laundry can get out of hand. As I was trying to complete my goal of 4 loads for the day, I walked in to find Kensli sitting in my laundry basket. She was talking to herself and having such a good time, that I got out my camera and tried to get a picture before she realized I was taking one. No use, she saw me coming!

Yep, that is a baseball helmet on her head.

Later I came in and this is what I found................

Well, she ended up getting stuck and had to be helped out of the laundry basket.

After I folded and put Kensli away, I did reach my 4 load goal!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!

A New President

Yesterday we elected a new president for our great nation! I have very mixed feelings this morning! On one hand, I am very proud of my nation that we have put aside our prejudices and have elected a man of diverse heritage. As the mom of 4 children of diverse heritage this makes me very happy to know that they will not be viewed the same way people were 50 yrs ago.

On the other hand, I am very concerned over some questions that still lurk in the back of my mind. Actually, I would have probably had some of the same lurking questions if the other candidate had one. Reality is, God is in control and we will not worry!

Only time will tell what the real outcome of this election will be. As a family, we will pray daily for this man that God would lead him to make good decisions, that righteousness would prevail, that God would bless America, and that we as a nation would repent and turn to God again.

Something Lost

She walked in to where I was today with tears in her eyes. She held her arms out and asked for me to hold her. "What's wrong?" I asked. Quietly she responded, "I can't find pictures of me when I was a baby." What? Of course there are pictures of her when she was a baby and she has seen them over and over. I reminded her of all the pictures of her in the albums and in frames, but she just shook her head. "Not like Sissy's!" she said. Then the reality of what she was saying dawned on me! She is right. Kaitlyn's pictures start when she was several months younger, and her baby pictures start when she is 6 to 9 months old. 3 referral pictures where she is sitting on a table looking like she is wondering what in the world is happening to her. My heart broke for her!

I understand how she feels! The lost past is a haunting thing at times in the lives of adopted children. I remember nothing from those 16 days in a home waiting to be adopted, yet when I went back, there were certain emotions that flooded me! My biggest emotion was not curiosity, but of fear! I have read where emotions are real even to newborns. I can only imagine how she must feel!

We went and looked at the Gotcha Day pictures and her referral pictures. We talked about how she was a baby when Mommy and Daddy came and got her. She said she wished she could be a little baby again and I could hold her and feed her a bottle. We snuggled for quite awhile just talking about her when she was a baby.

For now her fears and questions are gone. She was happy and bouncy all evening, and the cares of the day forgotten. Yet I know that sometime we will visit these same emotions again! The lost past is hard to forget!

Here are the 6 random things about myself:

1. I really don't care for pecan pie! I know, shame on me being a Southern girl and all!

2. I am adopted. I was 16 days old when I was placed in my parents arms.

3. I collect absolutely nothing! I do not care for clutter and will throw things away only to need them again later.

4. I was a teacher pre-kids. Taught for 6 years and then came home to chase my own kids.

5. I am deathly afraid of spiders and flying insects. We are going to study insects in the spring! Yikes!!!!!!!!

6. I love to fish. My demonstration speech for Speech 101 in college was Bass Fishing with a Plastic Worm. Strange, I know, but I got and A.

Weekend This and That

This is the only picture I have from this weekend that is good enough to share! Toby went to Guatemala and took my good camera! Goodness, I didn't realize how much I used the camera until it wasn't here.

Toby is working on some humanitarian projects in an around Guatemala City! He was so excited and called several times with news of the trip!

While Toby was gone, we went to see my parents. They only live an hours drive from us, but my dad is a pipeline welder, so they travel around the country on jobs. Sometimes we don't see them for months at a time. They were in for the weekend, so it really made it nice.

Halloween night the girls decided to pass out candy instead of trick-or-treating! This was a new experience for them, but Kensli quickly tired of the whole ordeal and just ate candy!

The boys went camping with my dad! They seemingly had a great time, except when they called and found out the girls were passing out candy! Then they wanted to come back to Granny's.

I took a couple of naps this weekend and read a book! Two things that I rarely get to enjoy with 4 kids! It was nice to have Mom around wanting to play with the kids.

Kaitlyn and Nicholas had their last soccer game of the season on Sat., so we drove down for that and then went back to my Mom's. Mom and Gran got to see them play for the first time.

Went to church at Mom and Dad's church this weekend. Nice to go home every now and then and see people that I have known forever. Spent some time with my Aunt Betty and Aunt Blanche. Two ladies that have had a big influence in my life and have a very special place in my heart!

My dear Granny turned 84 the other day, so we had a little celebration for her. I made her a yummy sweet potato pie and we gave her a "Bananagrams" game. She is in very good health for 84 and quite active. She loves games and she plays some form of game with Aunt Betty every day! Keeping her mind sharp, so she can beat us when we come and play with her! Happy Birthday, Granny! May you have MANY MORE!!!!!!!

I guess you could say that this weekend was really a little R&R therapy for me!
