Original

Well, back to the original look. I started having some trouble getting things to look right on the other blog template, so I decide to go back the original choice and things are better now. It also seems to look cleaner and I like that idea! Hope I can decide on what I really want and hire someone to customize soon.

Conversations with Kensli

Kensli talks a lot!!!!!!!!!!! I am amazed with her comprehension and useage of the English language. She seems to add words to her vocabulary daily! Her are some of the recent conversations we have had.

Dinner time and we were having baked porkchops.

Kensli: "See this meat, Mommy?"
Me: "Yes?"
Kensli: "Pretend it's gum! Okay, Mommy?"
Me: "OK."

She proceeds to chew the same piece of meat for a very long time.

We went to the Library this week with Mam-maw and Granny. There is a puppet theatre in the kids area and Mam-maw had the bright idea to introduce them to puppet shows. She called Nicholas and Kensli over, and as they got to the puppet theatre, Mam-maw popped one of the puppets out of the curtain. Kensli exclaimed, "OH, MAM-MAW, YOU 'BOUT SCARED ME TO DEATH!!!!!!"

Sitting in her little chair at the breakfast table with her gown pulled down over her legs.

Kensli: "Mommy."
Me: "Yes."
Kensli: "I hate phrogs, but I like daddy."

(Not sure what she was saying about Toby. HAHA!)

Yesterday morning she had another song for us. Obviously adapted from a traditional Mother Goose rhyme.

Kensli: "Please hush ev-we-body! I want to sing a song!"

(Everybody hushes and she begins.)

Kensli: "Humpy Dumpy sat on a wall. Humpy Dumpy had a fwall.
All the Queen's men couldn't put Humpy Dumpy gether
gin."

(Lots of laughter!)

Me: "Well, Toby, sounds like a pretty good version to me!"
Toby: "You would!"

Making Mooncakes

Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

The Mid- Autumn Moon Festival is a popular East Asian celebration of abundance and togetherness, dating back over 3,000 years. This festival began in China during the Zhou Dynasty. It began with the Han Chinese(Kensli is Han Chinese) and some other minorities. Sometimes it is referred to as the Latern Festival or "Mooncake Festival."

The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8 lunar month of the Chinese calendar(around mid- or late-Sepetember). This the best time, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest, to celebrate the abundance of the harvest. The mooncake is the traditional food of this festival.

Tonight we will try to gaze at the moon! It has been so cloudy lately that it has been impossible! Tonight as we gaze up at the moon, we will be thankful for all that God has given us, and we will think of our family and friends near and far.

What a Week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So much has happened this week that I am not sure where to begin! I started the week off behind which put me behind the rest of the week. I have been trying to evaluate my time usage because I am not sure where it all goes.

Here are the highlights of the week:

Ricky--Started a new math curriculum which has more reasoning and problem solving skills. Trying to get use to this. Started spelling this week. (Mom trying to learn the new program.)

Kaitlyn--Had several days of not knowing whether she was 7 or 2. Overall doing great. Her needle point project is actually looking good. It is her first try and I am so proud of her efforts!

Nicholas--He said his July scripture on Sunday! He has learned September's scripture this week. YEAH!!!!! Now, if we can get August next week...........keeping my fingers crossed.

Kensli--Trouble napping this week. I need her to nap daily, so I hope that she is not trying to phase her napping out. Also, she has been trying to persuade her siblings to beat me up when I cross her. YIKES! Taking measures to stop this little problem. Her interest in books has really increased in the last few weeks. She will sit for 15 to 20 minutes with a picture book. LOVE IT!!!!!!!

The weather has finally cooled some and the kids have spent a little more time out side this week. We are looking forward to a change in the weather!!!!!

The Saga is OVER.....Last Kensli Update

Friday, September 14th, Kensli had a checkup with the pediatric cardiologist. After her exam and x-rays, the doctor said that she looked great and that she didn't need to come back again. I am so glad that we are through with this part of our lives!!

The Trouble with Homeschooling

Homeschooling is rewarding and stressful! The business of educating children alone can bring a very smart, energetic, fun loving, easy going adult to her knees. We are in the 4th week of the official year. This week has not really been the ideal in the realm of homschooling! There have been so many little interruptions and yet somehow we manage to learn.

This week we are studying the Vikings. The kids were really interested and loved making their longships.

Ricky has really impressed me with his diligence in his Latin studies. I do not have to prod him to do any of the actual work that it is taking!

Kaitlyn has started reading the Little House on the Prairie Series. This is great seeing that up until this year she has hated to read.

Nicholas is more interested in play than work. Fine with me! No hurry, he is only 4! If he can learn his scriptures for Sunday school, I will be happy.

Kensli thinks she can read! She will bring me a book and then will read to me. All part of the process of getting ready to read!

There are times that I look at others and wonder why we are on this path. Then I think that there is no other calling any greater! Living, loving, and learning with some of the greatest kids on earth.

Weekend Rain Shower

I took some pictures of Kensli playing in her 1st rain shower. She has never wanted to get wet until this time and I am not sure she knew what to do once in the rain. Actually, my heart breaks for her after looking at the pictures. The rest of the kids were running, screaming, laughing and there she stands.

After she had played for a little while, I wrapped her up and she seemed happier in her towel and under the porch.
